Love is a beast,
salivating at the thought of me
until it's fed and satisfied.

And when it's eaten too much,
it disposes of me
like rotten meat.

When it's hungry,
it goes searching
for ways to indulge again.

So her eyes blankly touched mine,
like a rock skipping, skipping
grazing my water.

Her words without weight.
An unnerving coldness.
An air of staleness.

When her eyes used to linger on mine,
lest I caught her staring,
with a smile of unbearable light.
